I need some mirror ideas? Can you help?
Okay so I’ve got a few mirrors in a few different sizes. They’re all round.
I need some ideas on how to decorate them. I don’t want any fabric around them. I want to decorate the glass with paint or something. I thought about getting some kind of paint and paint little squares in different colors and then getting small little tiles and gluing them on around the outer edge of the mirrors.
Okay so what kind of paint and what kind of glue would I use so that everything stays on even when I use windex?
AND- Does anyone have any other ideas that they came up with or websites?
actually, I do this all the time and even sell my work at arts and crafts shows - I also demonstrate my mosaic tecniques at our local county fair each year. I use stained glass cut to about 3/4 x 3/4 inch squares with regular stained glass cutting tools, then nip it to whatever size and shape I need with carbide wheel disc nippers. You can draw designs, leaves, flowers, whatever, right on the mirror, then fill in with glass, then grout with regular sanded tile grout. The glue I like for this is called Crafters Pick, and would work with any other glueing type project as well. You can find it at many craft stores and also on line.
I would suggest starting on small projects before tackling anythig big or important to you so you can build your skills. I use the same process to decorate vases, old glasses, etc, and use the results for gifts. Lately I have been experimenting with the glue Weldbond, and it works too but is not quite as good as the Crafters Pick.
You could also use beach glass, shells, found objects like keys or coins, basically anything that is durable and won’t decompose. If you are willing to settle for something less permanent, you could also use dried flowers, seed pods, etc. Obviously, you would not grout those sorts of things.
